The classic tennis bracelet—which refers to a flexible bracelet with the stones lined up, hugging each other—actually got its name from a tennis game. As the story goes, back in 1978, a tennis player was wearing just such a bracelet, in diamonds and gold, at the U.S. Open. When the bracelet itself opened and fell off her wrist, she stopped the match cold until her tennis bracelet turned up. Since then this classic style has been called "tennic bracelet".
